This past weekend I did something I never thought I would do in a million years. I participated in a mud run!! Now, I’ve been more active this year since deciding to participate in Victoria Runs 1,000 Miles Challenge but I never thought I would truck through 4.7 miles of mud and obstacles. Thank goodness I have awesome co-workers who helped me through the whole experience. Check out a few highlights from the JCB Mud Run below.

Tip #1 – Garbage bag your car seat for the ride home. TRUST ME. You’ll want to do this!

We had so much fun. Seriously. I know it looks disgusting but it was hilarious and I’m so glad I did it! I love this website but I’m really glad I also work with some incredible people who push me to do things like this. Thank you to all my co-workers. Go team StayInSavannah.com!!!

So, did I inspire you to do a mud run?! Here are a few tips just in case you decide to do one…

1. We already know number one. Garbage bags on your seat.

2. Layers. I had on cotton/spandex leggings with leotard underneath. Yes, I own a leotard. It was for an 80′s costume but I’m really glad I had an extra layer on down there. Going down one of the hills my leggings got caught and ripped. No worries though thanks to my leotard. More people just wore running shorts over leggings and that would work great too! No matter what just definitely layer!

3. Headbands. I wore a sweatband. Like an 80′s style workout headband and it was perfect. It kept so much crud out of my face! Definitely suggest this. You can pick them up at WalMart for like $3.

4. Shampoo, Conditioner, Body wash, repeat. Once you’re home take a shower immediately. I just hopped in with all my clothes on and everything. Rinse all that mess out in the shower and then begin the cleansing process. Shampoo, conditioner, body wash, pause, then shampoo, conditioner, body wash AGAIN. Repeat as many times as necessary but honestly twice was good for me!

I hope you’ll try a mud run at least once in your life. There were people of all ages out at the JCB one so throw on some old clothes and go mud run!!

Trend Alert – Floral Prints

While florals may not necessarily be something new to the world of fashion it’s definitely all the rage….

Now – I, for one, have never really bought into this trend. In fact, I am 100% confident that if anyone came into my closet they wouldn’t find a single floral printed item. Y’all know by now that my favorite color is black and my favorite item is denim so just imagine what my closet looks like. I’ll give you a hint…there’s a wall of jeans and a whole lotta black shirts! Although I have recently had a small obsession with stripes – see last weeks post here for more details on that.

Well, while out and about the last few weekends I have noticed some really attractive florals. Disclaimer: I haven’t bought any yet but they are still really pretty. I feel like another week or so and I might actually make the leap and purchase something floral! Gasp!

Below are just a few of my most favorite items I saw while strolling around downtown Savannah!

Tank Top: Custard Boutique – $60

I’m digging this one because it’s not ALL floral. It mixes my newest fav pattern, stripes, with some florals. This might be a good introductory item into the world of floral patterns.

Tank Top: Fab’rik Savannah – $38

This tank also really stood out to me. For starters, I do love pink so that’s one point in its favor. Secondly, this is actually a part of Fab’rik’s newest White Collection. Check out my whole post featuring more of the collection here. I think I’m also just drawn to whatever flower is on this shirt so this may also find its way into my closet soon!

Dress: Custard $206 – Made in the USA

This dress is beautiful and is perfect for this Savannah summer weather we are about to experience. Why, you ask? Well, not only does it not wrinkle but it doesn’t show sweat!! I mean, I know us ladies glisten instead of sweat, but it won’t show your glistening either!

Dress: Fab’rik Savannah – $66

This dress is super lightweight without being see through. See-through clothing is kinda a pet peeve of mine so I get pretty excited when there’s a lightweight dress that you can’t see my hanky panky’s through.

Dress: Fab’rik Savannah – $78

We all know I love black so obviously I was drawn to this dress. I also just loved how they accessorized it. The stylists at Fab’rik are so awesome at putting outfits together!

Dress: Trunk 13 – $62

Ok, one last dress! This one is from Trunk 13. I just thought this was simply gorgeous. I also think this would look great on a lot of different body types.

So while I was out I also came across a few floral accessories. I really like the idea of slowly adding floral to my wardrobe so accessories might be the way to start!

Hat: Custard – $42

They had this in a few different colors as well so if you’re not a bright blue definitely check to see what colors they still have!

Belt: Custard $77 – Made in the USA

I love this belt. Want to know why? It would go perfect with jeans and a black shirt! Just sayin’.

Fab’rik Savannah – New White Collection

Fab’rik Savannah’s newest collection arrived last week. The White Collection features a TON of gorgeous colors and patterns for this summer. I absolutely loved every single piece I saw this past weekend but below are just a few of my favorites. Love it. Now, I’m too tall to pull that off BUT she totally can and so can you if you’re shorter than me!

Weekend Recap – 30th Birthday Party

It was truly another awesome weekend of friends, family and fun. Friday was Matt’s 30th birthday. Matt’s mom and dad and most of his friends live in Jacksonville so that seemed like the perfect place to celebrate the first 3 decades of his life! My mom and dad along with Matt’s sister and grandparents all came to Jax as well to help us celebrate.

Before heading to Jax I had to pick up Matt’s absolute favorite thing….Maison de Macarons! Note: I did not say Macarons but specifically Maison de Macaron. Matt doesn’t like all macarons but the ones these fabulous ladies make in Savannah are absolute perfection. For my locals the shop is located on Eisenhower and Waters next to the movie theatre. For my out of towners, visit www.maisondemacarons.com. You’re welcome in advance for the recommendation.

Once we had the macarons we could leave so off to Jax we went! Saturday Matt’s mom and dad put together a wonderful party. We saw some friends we hadn’t seen since our wedding. It was so great having everyone together again!!! Below are a few highlights.

We had perfect weather so the party stayed outside the whole day!!

One day I hope to have a patio like Matt’s parents. Until then I’ll just keep driving down to sit on theirs!

Yellow cake with chocolate icing is Matt’s favorite. In true form Publix did not disappoint!

Trunk Show @ Kathi Rich -TODAY

There’s a very special trunk show going on today at Kathi Rich! Ariel Lilly and Christina Coniglio, founders & designers of the womenswear brand Rae Francis, are coming home for a one-night only trunk show and cocktail party in honor of the graduating students of their alumni, Savannah College of Art and Design. Ariel and Christina met at SCAD studying Fashion Design, and moved to New York post graduation to create Rae Francis. The brand is produced in NYC and is currently found in high-end boutiques across the U.S.

The designers will be showcasing their Spring and Fall collections, while sipping on cocktails and speaking with new graduates.

Weekend Recap

Wow. What a weekend! I always love a good, 3-day weekend but this time it was extra special. Mom, dad, my aunt and uncle came to visit for the weekend to celebrate my uncle’s birthday. While mom and dad make regular trips up from Florida my aunt and uncle haven’t been able to really come up and enjoy the city since Matt and I got married here almost 4 years ago! Needless to say I was super excited to play tour guide for them. The only thing I love more than the city itself is sharing it with others!

The only thing my uncle said before he got here was that he wanted to eat at a couple really great restaurants. Done and done. I made reservations at what I think are two of the best places in Savannah; Elizabeth on 37th and The Olde Pink House. In true form these places did not disappoint.

I’m not one for taking food photos but I couldn’t resist on these two meals. Black Sea Bass, Crab Fried Rice and tomato/cucumber/feta salad from Elizabeth on 37th! YUM!

Saturday we spent the entire day shopping downtown. Something we all know I excel at! I took them down Broughton Street, through City Market and up into the Downtown Design District. It was incredible. Below are just a few highlights from Saturday’s shopping adventures.

One of first stops was at the Mercer Williams Carriage House Shop. There were so many cute trinkets in here but I just loved these 2 books on the mantle. “All you need is love” and “Let’s Bring Back”. The later of the two is a book all about the good old days. It was adorable.

Savannah Bee Company is always a must when showing visitor’s around town. I especially love that they have what I call the “turtle honey”. It’s of course still made from bees but they make a $3 donation for every bottle sold to help save the sea turtles.

Love, love, love nourish. They make environmentally-friendly, non-toxic, and biodegradable products right here in Savannah. This place is the best smelling shop in the whole town!

Byrd Cookie Company recently opened a new shop in City Market. I love this new addition and love bringing people in to taste the delicious cookies. My new favorite? This Blueberry Cooler!

The Modern General is located on Broughton Street and just has the most fabulous collection of things. One of which is this dog food container. I bought one a while back and this thing keeps my pup’s food more fresh than the rubbermaid containers. Plus, it’s super cute in my kitchen!

And then there was the chocolate stop. Adam Turoni has done it again with his “made to order smores” station. Homemade vanilla-infused marshmallows are torched and placed between two chocolate-covered graham crackers….need I say more?!

This sweet, little card shop opened up last fall and I have found some of the cutest gifts here.

I’m not a huge antique shopper, mainly because I can’t tell the difference between something worth $5 or $5,000, but I do love the occasional antique shop. While touring around Habersham Antiques I came across this gem! If you don’t already know I love turtles so this cookie jar was a must have!

If you haven’t stopped in the American Craftsman store on Broughton lately you’re missing out. Check out these stone liquor bottle holders. I see a birthday gift in someone’s near future!

Daddy and I were exhausted so we had to take a break while mom and aunt Karen kept shopping! Love this guy!

On Sunday (my uncle’s b-day) we were so tired from the day before. I wanted to make sure they got to walk the Riverfront before they left though so back downtown we went. The Savannah Riverfront had their annual Armed Forces Festival going on so there were lots of arts and crafts and music to enjoy. After another long day we headed back to the house to grill out and celebrate my uncle’s birthday!

We grilled out on these new planks we picked up from Savannah Bee Company. We did chicken tenders and salmon and both turned out delicious!

I hated to say goodbye to them all on Monday but know that they’ll be back soon. We had way too much fun for them not to want to make the drive back!

D1 – Holy Workout

Back in January I told you all about my friend Victoria and her 1,000 Mile Challenge. Well since then I have worked out more than I ever have in my whole, entire life! Our goal is to try and rack up 83.33 miles every month. Since I’m not a super runner, I’ve used her workout equivalent chart and gotten into Yoga and strength training! I had always wanted to really try yoga and I am so glad this challenge forced me to finally do it. It has been so wonderful and in my busy, day to day life it’s really helped me relax! I haven’t hit my 83.33 miles yet (that’s a lot of miles, you know?) but I’m learning all sorts of new, fun workouts and have met some incredible people on this journey.

One of these people is Chris. I met him at my very first D1 Adult Boot Camp last weekend. Chris, although he looks harmless in the photo below, is a beast. For 45 minutes he basically ran what felt like the hardest, most intense but awesome boot camp I’ve ever taken. By intense, I mean he made me and my friend Kristen push his giant trunk up and down the road. Thank goodness she was there with me so I wasn’t suffering alone! If you like to work out or are just looking to add something new into your current workout routine I highly recommend the boot camp at D1. Just remember, the camp is held outside so don’t forget to wear your sunscreen!

And after….Chris is the absolute best….and worst! Just kidding Chris. You ROCK!

Stripes, Stripes and more Stripes!

This past weekend I was out visiting a few of my favorite shops and noticed a TON of stripes! This makes me extremely happy as I have always been a huge fan of the stripe. I’m not a real big graphic pattern person so wearing stripes makes me feel like I’m participating in life with a pattern of some sort! Haha. If I’m not wearing a solid color top you can just about bet it’s because I am wearing a striped shirt.
